The Borough of Geistown has elected to administer and enforce the provisions of the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act – Act 45 of 1999. The Uniform Construction Code, contained in 34 PA Code, Chapters 401 – 405 as amended from time to time, is hereby adopted and incorporated by reference as the municipal building code of the Borough of Geistown. All required inspections are performed by a third-party inspection company acting on behalf of the Borough of Geistown.

All building permit applications are to be obtained at the Borough Office. Proper submission of construction document will be required for review by the third-party inspection company. When all completed applications and submission have been returned to the Borough Office, they will be reviewed for completeness and compliance with Borough regulation.

The cost of a building permit is $20.00 for the first $1,000.00 of construction value plus an additional $1.00 per each $1,000.00 or fraction thereof of additional construction value in excess of $1,000.00. Inspection fees are to be determined by the third-party inspection company based on the number of required inspections for the project.

Since each permit requires a site visit and research by the Zoning Officer, applicants should allow adequate time for the permit to be processed prior to the start of construction. Please plan ahead if you are planning on applying for a building permit.

The Planning Commission routinely reviews zoning ordinances and relative laws, as well as building permit applications in commercial and light manufacturing districts and permits for multi-family housing developments. The Planning Commission routinely offers appropriate recommendations as necessary to Council.

After the construction of a building, etc. is complete, and occupancy permit is required before it can be used. In addition, occupancy permits are required for all businesses relocating in Geistown Borough to insure proper compliance with Ordinance #434 as to appropriate use of the facility.
